Intermediate

The blues we keep coming back to

Breck is an intermediate's mountain. Almost a third of the runs are blue, and they're spread across four peaks that all ski differently. Peak 7 has the long groomers, Peak 9 the wide warm-up runs and Peak 8 the busier runs in the middle of everything. Peak 6 is open bowls above treeline.

If you only have a couple of days, spend a morning on Peak 7 and an afternoon on Peak 6. That's the best of it.

Blue runs

Twelve blues worth your time

Pioneer

The Peak 7 classic.

Long, wide and evenly pitched, and it comes back to the bottom of Independence SuperChair, so you can lap it all morning. It also connects from the Rocky Mountain SuperChair on Peak 8.

Our tip: Be there when Independence opens. The corduroy is perfect for the first hour.

Wirepatch

Best cruising at Breck.

The other Peak 7 favourite, and one of the least crowded blues on the mountain. Long, rolling and usually freshly groomed first thing.

Lincoln Meadows

Quiet and wide open.

Off Freedom SuperChair, which is usually quieter than Independence. One of the least crowded blues at Breck.

Angel’s Rest

Rolling terrain and views.

Known for its rolling terrain and the view as you come over each roll. A good one to slow down on.

Columbia

The Peak 9 favourite.

Wide and smooth, and a favourite of the resort's own lift maintenance director for cruising. It gets busy by mid-morning because everyone knows it's good.

Country Boy

Often overlooked.

A Peak 9 blue that sees fewer people than the runs under the lift. Try it when Columbia is busy.

Briar Rose

Rollers and tree islands.

Gentle rollers and islands of trees, and less crowded than most of upper Peak 9.

Gold King

The hardest blue on Peak 9.

Steeper than the other Peak 9 blues, with more than one fall line, and rarely crowded. A good test before you try a black.

Crescendo

Practise bumps with a way out.

The left side grows bumps, and the groomed right side is there if your legs give up. The best place at Breck to learn moguls.

Reverie

Your first run above treeline.

Wide open, with big views and conditions that can change quickly. Start here to get used to skiing above the trees on Peak 6, and go on a clear day.

Nirvana

The next step on Peak 6.

Once Reverie feels good, Nirvana is the next open blue to try off Kensho.

Daydream

More of the Peak 6 bowl.

Another wide blue down the open bowl. Like the rest of Peak 6, it's best on a calm, clear day.

Quick tip

Ski & snowboard rental

Book online before you arrive and pick your gear up in town the evening before. The morning rush at the base shops can eat your first hour, and booking ahead can be cheaper.

Quick tip

Lift tickets & the Epic Pass

Breck is on the Epic Pass. Buying a ticket at the window on the day is the most expensive way up the hill, so buy ahead online or look at an Epic Day Pass if you're here for a few days.

The Friday snow email

One short email a week in season: what fell, what's open, and where to ride this weekend.
