How to ski all five peaks in one day

You can ski every peak at Breck in a day, and it's the best way to understand how the mountain fits together. The trick is to go in one direction. Start at Peak 9, the closest peak to town, work your way north across Peaks 8 and 7 to Peak 6, then come back to Peak 8 and ski home on Four O'Clock.

It works best mid-week with the upper mountain open. On a holiday weekend you'll still get round, just with more time in lift lines.

The route

Peak 9 to Peak 6, then home

All the legs are blue or easier, apart from the optional Imperial ride. The times are rough. On a quiet weekday you'll be ahead of them, and on a holiday Saturday you won't.

If the upper mountain is closed for wind, swap Imperial and Kensho for an extra lap on Peak 7 and you'll still get a good day.

  1. 9:00: Quicksilver SuperChair, Peak 9. Start at the Peak 9 base, close to town, and ride Quicksilver to TenMile Station. Then take Mercury SuperChair and warm up on the wide blues: Columbia and Cashier are easy to find from the top.
  2. 10:00: Peak 8 SuperConnect. Ski Peak 8 Transfer to the bottom of the Peak 8 SuperConnect and ride it across to Peak 8. You come out high on the mountain, near the 6-Chair, without ever going through the busy Peak 8 base.
  3. 10:45: Imperial SuperChair, if it’s open. From the top of Peak 8, the Imperial SuperChair takes you to 12,840 feet, the highest chairlift in North America. Everything off it is double black, so if that's not you, ride it for the view and ride it back down. Skip it if it's on wind hold. It often is.
  4. 11:30: Colorado SuperChair and lunch. Ski down to the Colorado SuperChair, do a lap or two on Crescendo and Springmeier, then eat at Vista Haus at the top. Go before noon or after 1:30. In between, it's the busiest lodge on the mountain.
  5. 13:00: Independence SuperChair, Peak 7. From Vista Haus, head across toward Peak 7 and ski down to the Independence SuperChair. Two laps on Pioneer and Wirepatch, the best cruising at Breck.
  6. 14:15: Kensho SuperChair, Peak 6. Ski down to the bottom of Freedom, take the short Zendo Chair to the Horizon Hut, then the Kensho SuperChair up the bowl. The blues here, like Reverie and Bliss, are above treeline and feel nothing like the rest of Breck. Best on a clear afternoon.
  7. 15:30: Four O’Clock home. Head back across to Peak 8 and ski 4 O’Clock all the way down to town. It's 3.5 miles, the longest run at Breck. Easy, but it fills up after 3pm, so go steady.

Expert version

For strong skiers

Peak 10 first

Groomed overnight and usually one of the first lifts to open.

Breck's lift maintenance director told the Denver Gazette that he starts on Peak 10, because the Falcon SuperChair opens right away and the runs are groomed overnight. Take Quicksilver to TenMile Station, do a couple of runs on Centennial or Crystal, then take the SuperConnect to Peak 8.

The T-Bar and Imperial

Bowls once patrol has opened them.

From Peak 8, lap the Horseshoe Bowl T-Bar for Horseshoe Bowl, then move up to Imperial once it's open. On powder days the high lifts often open later than the rest of the mountain, so don't wait at the bottom for them.

Peak 7 bowls or Peak 6 chutes

Finish high, then ski home.

Traverse north from the top of Imperial into the Peak 7 bowls, or head to Kensho for the chutes on Peak 6. Both drop you back onto blue runs at the bottom, and from there it's the same way home.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Can you ski all five peaks at Breckenridge in one day?

Yes. Start at Peak 9, cross to Peak 8 on the SuperConnect, ski to Peak 7 and take the Zendo Chair to Peak 6, then come back to Peak 8 and ski Four O’Clock to town. Peak 10 is reached from TenMile Station at the top of Quicksilver.

Do I need to be an expert?

No. Every leg of our route is blue or easier. The Imperial SuperChair is optional, and you can ride it back down if you only want the view.

Quick tip

Ski & snowboard rental

Book online before you arrive and pick your gear up in town the evening before. The morning rush at the base shops can eat your first hour, and booking ahead can be cheaper.

Quick tip

Lift tickets & the Epic Pass

Breck is on the Epic Pass. Buying a ticket at the window on the day is the most expensive way up the hill, so buy ahead online or look at an Epic Day Pass if you're here for a few days.
