Getting to Breck

Flying in

Denver International Airport (DEN) is how most people arrive. It's the biggest airport in the region, with the most flights and the cheapest fares, and it's about 100 miles from Breck: roughly two hours by road in good conditions.

Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE), near Vail, is closer to the mountains but has fewer flights, usually at higher prices. The drive to Breck goes over Vail Pass, which can be slow or closed in storms.

Whichever you choose, check road conditions before you leave the airport. The weather in Denver tells you nothing about the weather at the tunnel.

Ways to get here

  • Shared or private shuttleDoor to door from DEN. Easiest with kids and gear.
  • Hire carMost flexible. Get AWD with winter or M+S tires.
  • BustangCDOT’s intercity bus along I-70, connecting to local buses in Summit County.
  • Summit StageSummit County’s free bus between Frisco, Breck and the other towns.

Driving

From Denver, take I-70 west through the Eisenhower–Johnson Memorial Tunnel to Frisco (exit 203), then Highway 9 south for about 10 miles. From Eagle, take I-70 east over Vail Pass to the same exit.

Colorado's traction law applies on I-70 from September to May when it's switched on, and a car without the right tires can be fined. Our roads page explains what you need.

Avoid I-70 westbound on Saturday mornings and eastbound on Sunday afternoons if you can. Leaving a couple of hours earlier or later makes a big difference.

Once you’re here

You don't need a car in Breck. The town's Free Ride buses are free, the BreckConnect Gondola is free from town to Peaks 7 and 8, and the resort runs a free shuttle between the Peak 7, 8 and 9 bases.

If you do bring a car, check where you'll park before you arrive. Slope-side parking is limited and mostly paid. See the resort's getting here & parking page.

Quick tip

Ski & snowboard rental

Book online before you arrive and pick your gear up in town the evening before. The morning rush at the base shops can eat your first hour, and booking ahead can be cheaper.

Quick tip

Lift tickets & the Epic Pass

Breck is on the Epic Pass. Buying a ticket at the window on the day is the most expensive way up the hill, so buy ahead online or look at an Epic Day Pass if you're here for a few days.
