Hike-to

Earn it

All the hike-to terrain at Breck is rated double black or extreme. It sits at close to 13,000 feet, where every step is harder than you expect, and the snow and wind change from day to day. It's also some of the best skiing on the mountain.

Check what's open on the signboards at the top of the lifts and in the My Epic app, respect every rope and gate, and ask at the ski patrol huts if you're not sure. There's no hike-to terrain on Peak 10.

Peak 6

Peak 6: the Kensho hike

Beyond Bowl

Wide and steep, to the north.

A steep hike of at least 30 minutes from the top of the Kensho SuperChair. Beyond Bowl is the big, wide face on the north side.

Serenity Bowl

The least technical first descent.

To the south of the hike. Rated extreme, but the friendliest way to start on the Peak 6 hike-to terrain.

Six Senses

Cornices and rock drops.

Beyond Serenity, with cornice drops, rock drops and steep, technical lines.

E.S.P

A tight, rocky start.

At the southern end of the area, starting in a narrow, rocky chute.

Whiskey River

A windy ridge.

A 10 to 15 minute hike from the Peak 7 traverse, on a windy, lippy ridge toward Peak 6. Sometimes closed.

Peak 7

Peak 7: the traverse from Imperial

Whale’s Tail

The first area you reach.

Head north from the top of Imperial. Whale's Tail is the first stop and the most popular.

C.J.’s

Further along the ridge.

Past Whale's Tail, mostly a traverse with a short hike.

Magic Carpet

A favourite line.

Next to C.J.'s along the ridge, and often skied into it.

Art’s Bowl

The far end.

The furthest of the Peak 7 bowls along the ridge from Imperial.

Peak 8

Peak 8: the summit

Easy Street

The least technical way down.

The summit hike starts right above the top of Imperial and it's the most popular one at Breck. Easy Street is the gentlest line off the top.

Lake Chutes

Narrow and technical.

Steep drop-ins and rock drops. Rated extreme terrain.

Wacky’s Chute

Mandatory turns.

A chute with turns you have to make. Know where you're going before you drop in.

9 Lives

Mandatory turns, again.

Like Wacky's, a line where the terrain decides where you turn.

Snow White

One of the least skied pitches at Breck.

On the south-facing ridge off the summit. Rated extreme.

Peak 9

Peak 9: the Back 9

The Back 9

Quiet and often fresh.

A gentler 20 to 30 minute hike on a road-grade path. Few people make the effort, so you can sometimes find fresh snow here well into the afternoon.

Twin Chutes

Next to the Back 9.

The chutes vary in how tight they are and how many trees there are. Follow the gully back to the bottom of the E-Chair or the SuperConnect.

Quick tip

Ski & snowboard rental

Book online before you arrive and pick your gear up in town the evening before. The morning rush at the base shops can eat your first hour, and booking ahead can be cheaper.

Quick tip

Lift tickets & the Epic Pass

Breck is on the Epic Pass. Buying a ticket at the window on the day is the most expensive way up the hill, so buy ahead online or look at an Epic Day Pass if you're here for a few days.
