Top and bottom are different days

The upper mountain sits around 2,500 feet above town and is often 10 degrees or more colder, with a lot more wind. Check the upper-mountain number above, not the one on your phone.

The high lifts open last

Peak 6 and the Imperial SuperChair are usually some of the last terrain to open in the early season. After a big storm, the high-alpine terrain often opens later in the day while ski patrol does avalanche control. On windy days the most exposed lifts are the first to go on hold.

Early season means limited terrain

In November and early December most of what's open is groomed runs with machine-made snow. It skis well in the morning and gets busy. Check the lift and terrain status page before picking a base.

Before you head up

  • Check lift & terrain status and pick your base from what's actually open.
  • Look at the webcams for visibility and wind.
  • Check roads if you're driving in from Denver or Frisco.
  • Heading out of bounds? Read the CAIC forecast and carry the gear. The resort's ski patrol doesn't cover the backcountry.
Quick tip

Ski & snowboard rental

Book online before you arrive and pick your gear up in town the evening before. The morning rush at the base shops can eat your first hour, and booking ahead can be cheaper.

Quick tip

Lift tickets & the Epic Pass

Breck is on the Epic Pass. Buying a ticket at the window on the day is the most expensive way up the hill, so buy ahead online or look at an Epic Day Pass if you're here for a few days.

The Friday snow email

One short email a week in season: what fell, what's open, and where to ride this weekend.
